Process

Garden planning

Plans that hold up in practice—clear priorities, honest sequencing, and room to evolve as the garden matures.

Site inventory

We document sun paths, wind, views in and out, existing trees worth keeping, and utilities. This inventory prevents expensive surprises after construction starts.

Circulation & use zones

Paths are the spine of a garden. Width, turning radii, and surface grip change how often a space gets used. We map primary and secondary routes before selecting materials.

Drainage & soil

Healthy planting depends on water moving predictably. Grading, subsurface drainage, and soil amendment are coordinated—not treated as afterthoughts.

Planting waves

We structure palettes in layers: structure, seasonal color, and groundcover that suppresses weeds without demanding constant editing.

Phasing

When budgets require chapters, we lock the “bones” first—paving, key trees, irrigation backbone—then layer planting where impact is highest.

Guide

From diagram to detail

Concept sketches align the household around intent; detail drawings align contractors around execution. Both are part of planning—not separate aesthetics.
